Issue 11: A Season for Home
The return of dinners at home, long evenings around the table, and the simple things that make them special. As summer slowly gives way to a new season, home begins to call us back.
Not all at once. The days can still be warm, the windows stay open, flowers still come home from the market. But evenings begin to change. We find ourselves in the kitchen more often, cooking something that takes a little longer, setting the table, inviting someone to stay for dinner.
The table becomes part of the evening again.
There is something we love about this shift. After a season that draws us outward, there is a pleasure in returning to the familiar things. To the rooms we know, the objects we use every day, and the small ways we make a home feel like our own. A tablecloth unfolded across the table. An apron tied before starting dinner. Napkins brought out of the drawer. Plates and glasses slowly finding their place.
Nothing needs to be particularly planned or perfect.
Perhaps the best tables rarely are.
“As the rhythm of summer begins to shift, there is a pleasure in returning to the familiar things.”
September sits somewhere between two seasons.
There are still flowers on the table and evenings with the windows open, but also the first dinners that stretch into darkness. The first time you reach for an extra layer. The first evening when staying home feels exactly where you want to be.
A table set without an occasion. Something cooking. Someone coming over.
And a whole season of evenings ahead.
