Issue 17: Dressing the Table

On gathering, familiar rituals, and the pleasure of making a table your own.

There is something special about the moments we spend around a table. From slow mornings and everyday meals to long dinners with friends, the table has always been a place to come together, share stories, and enjoy each other's company.

We have always loved the simple ritual of dressing a table. Choosing a tablecloth, bringing out favourite plates, mixing colours and textures, adding a few flowers or something collected along the way. Small gestures that can change the feeling of a space and make even the most ordinary day feel a little different.

A table doesn't need a special occasion to be dressed. Sometimes the most memorable gatherings are the unplanned ones, when a quick coffee becomes a long conversation or a simple lunch stretches into the afternoon.

We like the idea of a table that feels welcoming and lived in, where nothing needs to match perfectly and everything has its own place. A mixture of old and new, familiar objects and unexpected details. Something personal, shaped by the people who gather around it.

Cutwork Linen Tablecloth with Horse Motif

At OURY, our story began with the table and a love for the textiles that become part of these everyday moments.

Each of our tablecloths, except for cutwork pieces, is handcrafted in our Amsterdam atelier, with attention to natural materials, traditional techniques, and the way a fabric feels and falls. We believe a tablecloth can do more than dress a table. It can bring warmth to a room, introduce colour, soften a space, or simply become a familiar part of the home. Made to be used often, rather than saved for a particular occasion.

Handcrafted Linen Tablecloth with Ribbon Corners

There is no single way to dress a table. Some days call for a colourful tablecloth and a collection of mismatched plates. Others need little more than fresh bread, a favourite cup, and a piece of linen.

What matters to us is the freedom to make it your own, to enjoy the process of bringing things together, and to find pleasure in the small rituals of everyday life.

After all, the most beautiful tables are not always the most carefully arranged. They are the ones we return to, where people feel at home, and where there is always room for one more.
