An autumn gathering at Les Hirondelles, hosted together with OURY HOME. A weekend of long walks, shared tables, and time to appreciate the fleeting beauty of the season.

Sometimes I forget that autumn is my favourite season until it returns and I cannot imagine having loved another more. A burnished jewel tucked into the calendar, between the languor of late summer and the long inward turn of winter. There is something about its brevity that makes everything more precious: the light on the terrace, the pears on the table, a particular tree that will be bare by the time I pass beneath it.
At Les Hirondelles, I wanted to mark these ephemeral days. Together with OURY HOME, we imagined a weekend in which to linger over this fleeting part of autumn, to gather friends and give ourselves time to notice all that is changing around us.
The mornings begin in a welcome cold mist, with a pale pink sky and the smell of rain rising. After the dry yellows of August, colour returns in such abundance. Russet, plum, copper, the dark blue of a berry staining the palm. The swallows have gone away. Beyond the windows, the sky belongs to the crows, and at night the owls are alone to sing us to sleep. It is strange how completely we forget these sensations through the summer: woodsmoke in our clothes, cold at the back of the neck, the comforting slam of the door when everyone is finally inside.
The touches of OURY HOME embroidery invites another chance to pay attention to the fine details. A thread passing through cloth, a tiny change of direction, a detail you might miss if you were in a hurry. There was something very right about having it here, in a season that makes me want to pay attention to everything. The branching veins of a fallen leaf, the fine underside of a mushroom, the particular horse brown of a chestnut still wet from its shell.
OURY HOME linens became part of the weekend as much as the forest or the fire, the deep browns of the table and the luxurious softness of the linens laid out awaiting the foragers. Napkins and aprons embroidered with initials, a few elegant stitches that felt like the most tender offering.
Outside, we walked slowly, stopping often, the dogs disappearing ahead and returning with the first muddy paws of the season. Behind me, the sound of friends i love roving through fallen leaves.
None of this will stay quite as it is. The leaves will disappear. The paths will darken. For months, the trees will give so little sign of what they are quietly keeping alive. When the buds appear again, I know I will wonder how anything so tender survived the cold.
But the wonder begins here, in the falling away.
This winter, Robin and I will be married. Our love has grown into something so strong, so generous in all it makes possible, that sometimes I can hardly bear the happiness of it. These ordinary hours together feel especially precious: the friends I love around the table, Robin beside me, the house warm against the gathering cold. So much to look forward to, and still this wish to linger. A moment of time so precious because it is so fleeting.
Let the light stay a little longer on the terrace. Let someone tell the story again.
I liked to imagine everyone leaving with a napkin, a scarf, a pocketful of chestnuts or a bag of leaves gathered along the way. Something to unfold later, or discover in a coat pocket when the days have grown colder, and remember how it felt to be here together, at the golden knife's edge of the season.
